If they had finished the game and distributed it without the license, they could have been sued. The devs on Sonic Mania got the license from Sega. Remember, I said that it’s not a good idea to make a fan game without permission. I hope that other publishers are encouraged by Sonic Mania’s success to open up licensing to other properties. I’m also glad that they managed to come to an agreement with Sega, and that they obtained the license. I wish them the best luck in the future, and hope that they continue to work in games. I’m pleased as punch that fan devs managed to make it work and get their project(s) out the door and into the hands of players who enjoy the game.
